Up with justice, down with hunger!
After reading Stuffed and Starved-by Raj Patel
Thank you Raj patel! After reading your wonderful book I came to the reality of Global food system, and how it is being controlled by few companies from seed to production and production to supply at super market. I never realized the place where I always prefer to go for shopping (supermarket) force me to buy what they want us to eat not that we want.
Stuffed
and starved is a burning and insightful assessment of the modern global food system, which gives rise to the very incongruity that the book’s name suggests. By tracing the entire route of food production, Raj Patel asks us to think about the way food comes to the table, to understand the larger implications of supermarket shopping, and to recognize how we ourselves are poisoned by our choices. From the epidemic of farmer suicides in rural India, South Korea, and the United States, to the negotiation of trade alliances through agencies like WTO and the World Bank, he wants us to see the hidden message of meanness, power and monopoly of our food system. By his research on different parts of the world like South Africa, India, Mexico, Brazil, South Korea and Italy, Mr. Patel says he suffered a lot when he got to know about these things, but he ends it with hope!
